Vaccinations
& health advice

Worry-free travel: For a worry-free trip to Suriname, it is important to be well prepared regarding health and vaccinations.

Always consult official medical authorities for up-to-date guidelines.

Recommended vaccinations

✓ Short stay (< 3 months): For a short stay in Suriname, vaccinations for DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Polio), Hepatitis A, and Yellow Fever (mandatory when arriving from risk areas) are standard

✓ Long stay (>3 months): For a long-term stay in Suriname, vaccinations for Typhoid Fever and Hepatitis B are advised.

Protection against mosquitoes

Malaria: Suriname has been officially certified as malaria-free by the World Health Organization (WHO), making it the first country in the Amazon region to achieve this status. This means there is no longer an indigenous malaria risk for travelers.

Mosquito prevention: Although malaria has been eradicated, I still advise using good protection during the day and evening (such as DEET and protective clothing) against other mosquitoes that can transmit diseases like dengue, zika, and chikungunya.
