Day 1 - 3 Arrival & Historic Paramaribo

Upon arrival at Suriname’s international airport, you’ll be picked up and transferred to your accommodation in a peaceful residential area just outside the center of Paramaribo, where your round trip begins. The intimate and personal character of the property makes for a warm welcome and a relaxed start to your journey. Unwind by the pool, take a stroll through the charming garden, or simply enjoy the serene surroundings, all while the vibrant city life is still within easy reach.

On Day 2, discover the unique atmosphere of the historic city center of Paramaribo during a City Tour. Marvel at the monumental wooden architecture around the Presidential Palace and the Waterkant, and visit the Mosque and Synagogue, standing peacefully side by side. You will also explore the bustling Central Market and discover the rich history of Fort Zeelandia—a complete tour along the iconic highlights of Paramaribo.

Day 3 - 6 Blanche Marie & Apoera

From Paramaribo, a four-day adventurous journey through the west of Suriname begins. Travel along varied dirt roads toward Apoera, one of the largest indigenous villages. You’ll stay in simple rooms in Apoera and in tents near the impressive Blanche Marie Waterfalls.

During these days, nature, culture, and adventure take center stage: marvel at the impressive Blanche Marie Waterfalls, discover the authentic village of Apoera, and follow parts of the famous railway line through the untouched interior.

After this adventurous journey, continue your travels to Palulu, your next stay for the continuation of your tour.

Day 6 - 8 Palulu Nature Lodging

You will stay for 2 nights at Palulu, a charming and small-scale resort nestled in the jungle. Enjoy comfortable cabanas with air conditioning, hot and cold water, and a private terrace. Take a refreshing dip in the inviting cola-colored creek or relax with a book in a hammock.

On Day 7, head out at dusk with your guide for an exciting walk around the resort. As night falls and the jungle comes to life, you’ll discover a surprising world of nocturnal creatures. Initially, it may feel a bit thrilling, but soon you'll be filled with wonder by the number of animals that make an appearance during this evening walk.

Day 8 - 10 Fredberg

From Palulu, set course towards the Fredberg, a top destination for those who love an active, sport-filled challenge deep in nature. After an adventurous drive over partially unpaved roads, you’ll arrive at the base camp, the ideal starting point for the coming days.

On the first day, you will climb the mountain. Once at the top, enjoy the spectacular panoramic views over the rainforest canopy. You will spend the night here back-to-basic in a hammock—an unforgettable place to watch the day end and see the jungle awaken the next morning.

After hiking back down the following day, settle into a cabin along the river. Take a refreshing swim, grab a kayak, or go in search of the rare orange cock-of-the-rock that lives in this area.

At the end of your stay, you will be taken to the harbor of Atjoni, the gateway to the villages along the Suriname River. Here, your guide will already be waiting to take you across in a korjaal (dugout canoe) to the Upper Suriname area, where you will get acquainted with the authentic Maroon culture.

Day 10 - 13 Walking Through the Maroon Culture in Upper Suriname

From the harbor at Atjoni, begin your active four-day journey through the heart of the Upper Suriname area. During this journey, you will alternate between hiking through pristine nature and villages and short trips by korjaal along the river. It is the ultimate way to experience both the jungle and the hospitality of the local Maroon communities from up close.

You will travel past several authentic villages, where you will gain a unique insight into daily life along the river. Along the way, there is a good chance you will spot wildlife in the dense jungle. A visit to the local museum in Pikinslee further deepens your understanding of the history and the rich heritage of this area.

You’ll stay in small-scale cabins at three different locations along the waterfront, each offering a unique character. On the last day, you will travel by boat the entire route back to Atjoni, after which you continue your journey carrying a backpack full of unforgettable impressions of the Surinamese interior.

Day 13 - 15 River Glamping at Seliba

For the next two nights, settle down on the banks of the Suriname River for an intimate glamping experience. You will stay in one of only six charming tipi tents, each featuring a unique character through worldly-inspired decor, and equipped with a private terrace. Enjoy a comfortable camping experience with privacy and stunning views over the river.

The surroundings lend themselves perfectly to both discovery and relaxation. Head into the jungle with a guide who will introduce you to the local flora and fauna, and keep your camera ready for any wildlife you encounter along the way. Looking for refreshment? Dive into the swimming pool, take a cooling dip in the river, or explore the currents on a SUP board. In the evening, when tranquility returns, your private terrace is the best place to admire the impressive starry sky.

Day 15 - 16 Paramaribo

A short return to Paramaribo for an overnight stay without scheduled excursions, ideal for enjoying a delicious dinner at one of the city’s many excellent restaurants. After days spent in pristine nature and the jungle, it is wonderful to be back in civilization, experience the vibrant atmosphere of the city, or quietly unwind from your adventurous journey.

Day 16 - 19 Palumeu, Get to Know the Indigenous Culture

By small aircraft, you will fly deep into the jungle to Palumeu, a remote lodge located near an authentic indigenous village. Here, you’ll have a unique opportunity to experience the daily life and traditions of the Trio and Wajana communities up close.

The program is varied, combining nature and culture. Hike along narrow jungle paths to impressive viewpoints such as Potihill, or take a boat trip to the Mabuka Waterfalls, searching for unique birds and wildlife together with your gids. Adventurous travelers will also have the chance to try traditional activities such as archery, gaining a small piece of the lifestyle of the local community.

Day 19 - 21 Peperpot

The final two nights of your round trip will be spent at a special location in Commewijne, directly at the edge of the Peperpot Nature Park. After arriving back at the local airport in Paramaribo, you will be transferred to this small-scale accommodation, where modern luxury and the charm of Surinamese heritage come together.

You will stay in a comfortable room in one of the beautifully restored buildings of the former plantation. From the 'backyard' of the hotel, you can walk straight into the nature park, a paradise for nature lovers. During a walk or bike ride through the park, you will be surrounded by an impressive wealth of birds and butterflies. With a bit of luck, you might spot monkeys, sloths, or even an anteater during the day. Don't forget to climb the watchtower for a unique view over the nature park.

Relax by the pool, explore the trails by bike, or rent a kayak to discover the park from the water. The atmospheric restaurant, located in a historic plantation house, is the ideal place to look back on all your impressions while enjoying delicious local dishes.

Day 20 Peperpot Evening Tour

When evening falls, head out with an experienced guide for a walk through the adjacent nature park. In the mystical twilight, the forest comes to life as you search for the many nocturnal animals that live here. Make sure to wear closed shoes, as the tour takes you over unpaved paths deep into nature.

Together with your guide, you will search for wildlife such as sloths, monkeys, snakes, and various species of frogs and spiders. You will learn all about their unique behavior at night before returning to your accommodation at the end of the evening.
