Best time to travel to Suriname

Suriname has a tropical climate where the sun shines all year round.

Temperatures almost always hover around a tropical 30°C (average between 27-29°C), making the country a delightful destination 365 days a year.

Seasons and rainy periods

The country officially has four seasons:

✓ Short rainy season: early December – late January

✓ Short dry season: early February – late April

✓ Major rainy season: late April – mid-August

✓ Major dry season: mid-August – early December

When traveling to Suriname

Suriname is an attractive destination all year round.

The months of February, March, July, and August are popular with visitors, while January, April to June, and September to November are somewhat quieter.

Even during busier periods, the country remains spacious, and you can fully enjoy nature and culture.

Do keep in mind that (flight) prices are often higher during peak months.

Best time to travel with children

Suriname is an ideal destination for a family trip. It is also perfect to visit during school holidays, although some places are slightly busier and more expensive then.

Whether you want to take a boat into the jungle, join a cooking masterclass with a local family, or explore the city of Paramaribo – Suriname offers a varied and adventurous program for young and old.

The relatively short travel distances and the fact that Dutch is spoken make it easy for children to connect with other children.

There is ample opportunity to explore the surroundings independently, allowing you to truly experience a sense of freedom.
